Today I was very honored to be invited by Hans-Werner Guth to join him and some more origami enthusiasts from around Cologne to spend an afternoon in the sun, folding modular origami and eating yummie cake. I have never really done origami before and – as always – I picked one of the most difficult models to start with – the one you see on top. Isn’t it amazingly beautiful? I have to ask about the name again.
The folding of the parts was actually pretty easy, but the assembling is really quiet tricky. I got about half of it done – yay. I will try to do the rest at home – will see how that works… And I’m definitely looking forward to the next "Faltnachmittag"…

Das war ein schöner Nachmittag! Gelernt: Wichtiges Utensilien: Die vielen heute Morgen noch gewaschenen Flachsteine aus den von Stefan und Sonja geschenkten Tomatenpflanzentöpfen. Gab doch mal den einen oder anderen Windstoß heute Nachmittag! Und gelernt: Auf keinen Fall Objekte auslegen, die schwer im Zusammenbau sind: Garantiert stürzen sich die Enthusiasten auf diese Modelle…

Der Körper an sich (die Außenhülle) nennt sich Icosaeder (engl. Icosaedron). Mein Mathelehrer von damals hätte gesagt: ‘Zwanzigflach’.
Lewis Simon und Bennet Arnstein haben ein Modul vorgeschlagen, aus dem sich dieses Zwanzigflach erstellen läßt (Man braucht 30 Module). Sie nennen das Modul ‘Triangle Edge Module’

Open the Book ‘3-D Geometric Origami, Modular Polyhedra’ by Rona Gurkewitz ans Bennett Arnstein at page 53! The page ist titled: Triangular Edge Module by Lewis Simon and Bennet Arnstein.
This page describes the base module. I modified this module to show something from the back of the duo colored paper …
