A few weeks back Sandrine put this idea in my head of making a do-it-yourself memo pockets craft kit.
We had some discussions about it on flickr, I thought it through, then started to write down instructions and started to do tons of illustrations and…
… finally this last weekend I put everything together – So I’m happy to say the memo pockets kit is (almost) finished – yeay!
This kit is for a small memo pocket with 5 pockets:
Outside: 5 3/4″ by 4 1/4″ (14.5 x 10.5 cm)
Pockets: 5.6″ by 4.05″ (14.2 x 10.3 cm)
Besides illustrated step-by-step instructions each kit includes:
> Cardstock sheets for 5 pockets
> Cardboard covers
> Decorative paper for the cover
> Ribbon
> Bookbinding glue
> Glueing template
BUT, there’s still one very import thing missing: it needs to be tested and as I would probaby not be the best candidate, i thought I’d post a fab little testing give away!
The first kit – of course – goes to Sandrine for giving me the idea and lots of helpful feedback – thanx so much Sandrine! BUT I wanna give away 3, so there are 2 more for you to get!

So for your chance to get one of these kits, please leave a comment answering these 3 little questions until Sunday, Dec 14th 9pm GMT (5pm EST):
1) What would you use your memo pockets for?
2) What are your top 3 colour combinations from the above image?
3) What would be a fair price to sell this kit for?
Important: Please only participate if you agree to test the kit and give me some feedback how it worked for you within 4 weeks after you received it!
I will randomly select 2 winners and post them here on Monday, Dec 15th.

Thanks for the invite to participate in your giveaway!
These little memo pockets look like a great idea – especially the blue set. I have just had a baby and trying to make my life a little more organised – probably should have before bubs! I would use the pockets to hold – recipes, craft patterns, important documents – which i usually lose, letters….
With currency so up and down at the moment it’s hard to put a price on it. Do you price them at 50-75% of the price of your completed books for sale on etsy plus shipping?
These are great – i would certainly love to test out the little kit for you.

Hey Kathrin!
Wow, I’m kinda jumping up and down at the chance to be one of your guinea pigs!
My favorite color combos are numbers 2, 3, and 5.
It looks like your kit will be pretty comprehensive with extremely detailed instructions, and the diy aspect adds a lot of appeal to some. So..
I’d charge about 22 or 25, depending on number of pockets and size.
Another way you could figure out a fair price is to compare the amounts of time it takes to assemble a kit vs. a finished book. Then subtract the “wage” you pay yourself hourly for the assemblage itself. Did that make sense?
I can think of a number of ways I might use one of these babies, but the first thing that comes to mind is using it as a transportable portfolio of yarn/fabric samples!
Cheers and liebe gruesse,
Jess
As I already stated on flickr I think this is a great Idea and if I don’t get to be test subject number 2 I will certainly purchase a kit as soon as they come available. It would also make a great gift for craft-eager friends so I will probably want one or two anyway. To answer your 3 questions
1. I would use it to keep my vast (and growing) collection of paper, cloth and thread scraps with information about where I purchased them. I used to glue those in a book but keeping them in pockets is much better
2. In quite random order 2, 7 and 8
3. oh I don’t know, I guess about the same amount as you’d ask for a ready made one, it is DIY but you’re also selling repeatable instructions so I’d not go a lot lower than lets say $30 + shipping.
OH MY GOD !! I can’t find my words !! WOW ! Thank you soooo much !! You didn’t have to do this ! It was a simple pleasure for me to “help” you ;-) I didn’t want anything in return !! WOW WOW WOW thank you soooooo much ! I’m so deeply touched, moved and of course happy !! It’s a great surprise for me ;-) Thank you sooooo sooooo much !! I will private mail you ;-)
Kathrin, I’d love to help out with testing the kit. I’ve been watching all the work in progress on Flickr (I’m user jibbajabba there).
1) What would you use your memo pockets for?
I can think of 2 thinks off the top that I could use these for. The first way I’d use it, is to organize my index cards for sure. I have a little stand with index cards for all the craft and website projects I want to get to next and they get unruly. The second idea is to use it as a little carrier to create a little drawing/creating kit that I can take with me. My son create little character cards at home, but I could bring the cut cards and stickers in the pockets so we can do it outside the house.
2) What are your top 3 colour combinations from the above image?
I’d put together whatever no one picks, but 3, 5, and 8 look good to me.
3) What would be a fair price to sell this kit for?
I was initially going to say something like $25+shipping for the kit? $10 less than the full price for a readymade. Then I thought that the purchaser gets the instructions for doing it over and over, so that’s very valuable–more valuable than the price of one readymade. So I think you could charge around $30 for this with materials, and maybe $20-25 for the instructions alone?
This is a fabulous idea, and I would be happy to post photos of the final product to flickr.
I love the idea of the kit. I have looked at the memo pockets and thought about trying to make one. I would carry one in my purse to collect the ephemera of my life that I later use to journal, make projects, etc.
I like the color combos #2, 5, and 8.
I think $25.00 – $30.00 would be a great price point.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment and I would love to make one of your memo pockets.
I have long admired your pocket organizers and would love to test out your kit!
1) I would use it to organize all the little bits of paper notes and ephemera that are currently on every surface–by my computer, my work area, my kitchen “junk” counter…..
2) I love green, so #8 is my first choice. Then 7 and 3.
3) I think $25 would be quite reasonable.
Thanks,
Laura
1) journal supplies…stickers, found papers, pictures, little keepsakes, etc.
2) 5, 2, 3…in that order.
3) $20
what a fantastic idea!
i would use this to organize myself at work, as i see patients in their hospital rooms, away from my desk–i could keep little cards of info on each patient in their.
i love all the colour combinations, but especially 6, 7, and 8.
i think $20-25 would be a reasonable price, but then again, i don’t know that cost/quality of the materials, so maybe more depending?
best of luck on this endeavor!
hi! I found your contest just in time by following your blog link from Flickr – where my username is MissRuth
1) What would you use your memo pockets for?
To corral all of the tiny paper scraps that I compulsively save while bookbinding (that ultimately end up in miniature books!)
2) What are your top 3 colour combinations from the above image?
I like number 2, 6 and 7!
3) What would be a fair price to sell this kit for?
I think around $20 plus shipping –
I don’t know what you do to cut your boards but if you are like me and cut them by hand, you might want to investigate Hollander’s in Michigan, because they offer custom cutting at a pretty low price – If you didn’t have to cut your own boards you could save a lot of time on the kits. I don’t know if they do international shipping but there might be something similar in Germany as well.
